The Hiding Place is where you can hide your resources, which cannot be stolen by plunderers and looters. Even enemy Scouts will be unable to discover your resources in the Hiding Place. A higher level Hiding Place will hide more resources. Capacity is per resource type; that is, a capacity of "100" will hide 100 Wood + 100 Clay + 100 Iron. Note that the Hiding Place only hides, it does not increase the capacity of your warehouse.
For example, you have in your warehouse 1,000 wood, 500 clay and 300 iron, and a hiding level of 4; then others scout respectively 538 wood, 38 clay and 0 iron, which then is their maximum haul as well.
